The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that was reported after the parties involved wrecked in the Littleton area Saturday night.

The wreck occurred at the intersection of Roper Springs and Justice Branch roads shortly before 10 p.m., Major Bruce temple said.

The shooting occurred on Warren Street in the town of Littleton and the town’s police department handed investigation of the matter over to the sheriff’s office.

Detective H.L. Williams responded to the scene and learned the driver, Clarence M. Bailey Jr., 32, of Littleton, was taking a friend who had been shot in the leg to the hospital when the car wrecked.

Both men sustained injuries from the wreck and as of the last report are both hospitalized at an undisclosed medical facility.

Investigation determined Bailey also allegedly shot the victim, a 46-year-old male.

Detective O.B. Wiltsie is continuing the investigation to determine whether the victim was shot intentionally or whether he was mistakenly shot.
