One person was injured from a physical assault and Roanoke Rapids police responded to a shots-fired call inside a recently opened bar at Becker Village Mall Thursday morning.
The call to the Goldmine Bar and Lounge, which is licensed to sell beer, came in shortly before 12:30 a.m., according to Chief Chuck Hasty.
The bar occupies the former Goldmine arcade in the mall.
Hasty said Officer Mark Oakley arrived and observed a large crowd in the parking lot, one person telling him the person allegedly responsible had left in a black vehicle.
Oakley entered the business and reportedly found people hiding throughout the mall and bar.
Three vehicles sustained damage from gunfire.
There were no injuries reported immediately after the matter, although around 4:30 a.m. Officer Matt Hunsucker was dispatched to Halifax Regional Medical Center for a report from a victim who reported they were assaulted while outside the establishment.
Asked whether the police department might explore nuisance abatement against the establishment, Hasty said, “All options are being investigated.”
City officials could not be immediately reached for comment this afternoon.
The bar opened around Christmas.
