While a Roanoke Rapids man has been arrested for allegedly stealing multiple firearms from one victim over the last three to fourth months, the city police department is seeking anyone who might have bought a weapon from him.
Detective Frankie Griffin has recovered two of the firearms. Those stolen in the collection are all valuable, he said in a statement.
The Halifax County Sheriff's Office arrested Richard Andrew Mayton III on a Roanoke Rapids warrant on January 16 for the thefts.
Griffin is encouraging anyone who might have bought a weapon from Mayton to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or call him directly at 252-326-4924.
The bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and and Firearms is assisting in the investigation. The police department will be able to tell those who come forward whether the gun they bought is stolen.
