Divers took to Rochelle Pond today seeking items stolen from a recent round of motor vehicle break-ins.
The Halifax County Sheriff's Office and Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad worked side by side along with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, Lieutenant Joseph Sealey said.
The items divers were looking for, some which were located in the pond, are items typically taken from vehicle break-ins — jewelry and electronics.
The recent recovery of some of the items led to today's search, he said, declining to elaborate what was found in the water or elsewhere.
The items were most likely thrown in the pond as a way to dispose of evidence.
The string of break-ins have occurred across the county, Roanoke Rapids and Weldon.
