Two people have been charged after surrendering today to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office for buying items with stolen electronic benefits cards.
Detective J.M. Clark said Holly Alicia Suggs, 35, of Roanoke Rapids, stole two cards from family members.
She bought around $135 in eligible items on one card while Edward Lee Davis, 35, of Weldon, bought around $75 worth of items on another stolen card, Clark said.
Investigation began in February and the investigator learned another victim reported a missing card in January.
Clark identified Edwards as the man in a surveillance photo released earlier this month. Further investigation led to Suggs, an acquaintance of Edwards, who gave the man one of the stolen cards.
Suggs received a $5.000 bond for two counts of financial transaction card theft, one count of buy and sell food stamps, one count of identity theft, and one count of illegally using food stamps.
Davis is charged with buy or sell food stamps, identity theft, and illegally using food stamps.
He received a $10,000 bond. His bond is higher because he was currently out of jail on $5,000 bond.
They both await June 10 court dates.
