A Littleton man is wanted in connection to a drive-by shooting late Saturday night in which a 13-year-old was shot inside the residence on Thelma Road.

Detective Willie Murphy Jr. of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said in statement released early this morning the juvenile, who was transported to an undisclosed medical facility, is expected to recover.

The sheriff's office seeks Shermarquette Bernard Whitaker, 32, who faces charges of discharging a weapon into occupied property and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

The statement does not shed light on motive behind the shooting, which occurred just before midnight.

Deputies responded to an undisclosed address on Thelma Road regarding a report a juvenile was shot in the aftermath of the drive-by.

Investigation, Murphy said in the statement, shows Whitaker reportedly drove to the residence and opened fire from the roadway.

He was last seen operating a new model Dodge Charger. The Charger is a dark-colored car.

Whitaker has connections to the Roanoke Rapids and Littleton areas and is considered armed and dangerous.
