Melek Smallwood took a plea in the December 11, 2014, armed robbery of a Roanoke Rapids Subway restaurant, his attorney confirmed today.
Gregory Perry, who represented Smallwood in the case, said his client was sentenced to 38 to 50 months in prison in Halifax County Superior Court..
Roanoke Rapids police said at the time Smallwood entered the restaurant on Premier Boulevard and spoke to employees about buying a drink.
When the employee opened the cash drawer, Smallwood drew a weapon and demanded money.
With money in hand, he fled the store and ran towards Fourth Avenue.
He was later arrested in Raleigh.
