Despite continued arrests, City County Drug Task Force agents returned to Sam Powell Dairy Road and arrested Tirrell Desmond Simmons.

Today's arrest of the 26-year-old Roanoke Rapids man marks the third search warrant served at the residence since March, Agent D.J. Hundley said in a statement.

“They're still selling. They haven't stopped selling drugs,” task force Captain A.M. Harris said this afternoon.

The task force may consider federal adoption of the case, Harris said. “That's an option. Complaints are still coming in. He posts bond and goes right back to selling. We keep getting complaints. We're going to make contact with the homeowner and let them be aware.”

As of this report, Harris said Simmons was still in custody at the Halifax County County Detention Center on $50,000 secured bond and awaits a February 24 court date.

He already has a January 27 court date scheduled for previous drug charges lodged by the task force while his twin brother, Terrell, is scheduled to appear in court next week.

Harris said Terrell was at the house at the time of the 9 a.m. raid but no drugs were found in his possession.

The arrest of Tirrell came after an eight-month investigation based on citizen complaints and officer observation.

The search warrant execution, with assistance from the task force's dog, Josh, resulted in the discovery of 2.6 grams of cocaine and numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

Hundley arrested Tirrell for felony possession of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle, place or dwelling to keep a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Marijuana arrest

Meanwhile today, Agent C.A. Parker reported during the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Sycamore Street in Weldon, Mark Jones, 42, was found in possession of marijuana.

Parker said in a statement Jones was cited for possession of one-half ounce or less of marijuana.

The case was based on a month-long investigation due to citizen complaints and further officer investigation.

The search warrant was executed shortly after 1 p.m. and Jones received a February 24 court date.

The task force encourages anyone with drug information to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444 to report a tip.
