The Halifax County Health Department today added 35 new positive cases of COVID-19 to its data.

Since March of last year there have been 5,484 cumulative positive cases. There have been 109 related deaths.

In Northampton County the health department reported today there have been 1,815 total positive cases of which 1,730 have recovered. There are 17 active cases. There have been 68 related deaths.

Meanwhile, as part of its community outreach efforts to provide vaccination opportunities in marginalized communities, CoolSpring Fit, the health and wellness ministry of Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church, is hosting a vaccination clinic in the Cool Spring Community Center Friday.  

The clinic is a partnership with the Northampton County Health Department, which plans to administer 100 first doses of the Moderna vaccine.  

There are three available time slots: 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.  

Appointments may be made by calling 252-365-0042. 

For those in need of transportation to the clinic, the Choanoke Public Transportation Authority can provide rides for the 1 p.m. slot only.  Call 252-539-2022, extension 222 for more information or to schedule a ride.  

The vaccine is available to anyone 18 and over. No ID or insurance are required.

Starting at noon Friday on the property outside the community center, there will be a community resource event to include free food, books for children provided by the Cultivator Bookmobile, giveaways and information from other organizations which provide services in the community.
