Edward “Ed” Carlton Smith, 85, of Halifax passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at home.

Ed was born June 28, 1935 in Virginia to the late Willis Jackson Smith, Sr. and Nannie Wood Smith. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Willis Jackson “Billy” Smith, Jr.

Ed was a member of Community Center Baptist Church. He graduated from Aurelian Springs High School. 

Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, loved gardening, hunting and fishing. Ed loved working and retired from Rightmyer Machine Rentals with over fifty years of service.

Ed is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Doris Grant Smith; his children, Michael “Mike” Smith (Elsie) and Mary Susan Smith Herbert (Bob); his grandchildren, Debra LeAnna Bryant Mead (Darrell), Michael Chase Campbell (Steven), Sydney Smith and Torie Ladendorf (Jonathan); his great-grandchildren, Parker Mead and Nathan Mead.

Due to the icy weather conditions, the service will not be held on Sunday.  

It has been rescheduled for 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the funeral home.  Visitation will be from 2:00 - 2:45 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Due to CDC recommendations for COVID-19 social distancing is encouraged.
