The Halifax County Sheriff's Office is looking for Carlton Jay Ham, 46, from Roanoke Rapids, for failure to appear in court for the following charges: violation of a domestic violence order,assault on emergency personnel,simple assault,disorderly conduct, two counts of communicating threats,trespassing and resisting public officers. Another federal conviction was made last week in Operation Burnout, an effort by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office to target large scale drug dealers.
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has concluded a Portsmouth, Va., man died when the boat he was driving struck him in the head as it overturned when he hit a boat dock.
The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is investigating a strong armed robbery which occurred early this morning.
The crime occurred at the Presto on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway around 1:30 this morning. Police radio transmissions said the person, described as black male with dreadlocks, went in the store and snatched money.
He fled on foot after grabbing the cash and police are still investigating.

A Pleasant Hill man has been arrested in the early morning robbery at Presto, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.
