A mechanic working at a shop in Halifax has been charged with allegedly stealing a bag of tools from a vehicle he was working on.
Investigation into the case involving Gregory Scott Harris, 32, of Roanoke Rapids, began with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office ended up charging him Monday with felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, felony larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Investigation by sheriff’s office Detective H.L. Williams and Roanoke Rapids Detective Jeff Baggett led to the arrest.
A vehicle being repaired at a shop in the Halifx area was broken into and a bag filled with mechanics tools was taken, Williams said.
Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said while investigating Harris for identity theft when someone’s card was stolen, a search of his residence resulted in the discovery of a bag of tools.
Harris was jailed on $10,000 bond.
