An Enfield man’s attempt to allegedly pass a counterfeit bill at a Weldon convenience store Wednesday led to cocaine charges and an outstanding warrant service.
Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy C. Griffin responded to Three Flags on a counterfeit bill call.
Griffin spoke with Kourtnie James, 21, and learned he had an outstanding warrant from Nash County.
James tried to buy something at the store but when the clerk did a marker check it revealed the bill was fake, Martin said.
Deputies C.E. Carroll and J. Sampson arrived to assist and discovered a small bag of cocaine in James’ pocket.
James was charged with attempted obtain property by false pretense, passing counterfeit money, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cocaine.
He was jailed on $10,000 bond and has a June 6 court date.
