Tempers flared this morning during a bond hearing for one of the suspects arrested in the Christopher Johnston death.

Details are still sketchy, said Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

What is known is that when Pamela Elrod, who is charged with accessory after the fact of involuntary manslaughter, was up for her bond hearing appearance, words were exchanged between Johnston’s family members and his supporters and Elrod.

Martin said the verbal exchanges led to a physical fight.

It was not immediately clear what charges were filed and who was charged. The outcome of the bond hearing was not immediately known.

Meanwhile, this afternoon, the bond hearing for Jason Wallace, who was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the case, was continued until June 13. Wallace was not in the courtroom.

Wallace’s attorney, Jamal Summey, made the request in front of Judge Brenda Branch as many of Johnston’s family members, most wearing T-shirts honoring his memory, sat in the audience.

Branch granted the motion for continuance and also a motion requesting a probable cause hearing in the matter.

The judge requested that District Attorney Melissa Pelfrey compile her list of witnesses for the probable cause hearing.
