Northampton County emergency responders received a call around 6:15 p.m. a vehicle was discovered in a ditch off Highway 46 just past Cal Floyd and learned the driver was 64-year-old Vicki Brewer Wright.
The state Highway Patrol said initial investigation shows the crash was termed a roll-over and the vehicle had been in the ditch for at least three days.
Hasty said law enforcement has requested an autopsy and the matter remains under investigation by Roanoke Rapids, the Northampton County Sheriff's Office and Highway Patrol.
Hasty said it was too early in the investigation to say what caused the vehicle to crash or determine the cause of death.
A Silver Alert for Wright was issued last week.
