NWS expecting moderate Matthew impact in county

The National Weather Service is expecting a delayed arrival of hazardous weather associated with Hurricane Matthew for central North Carolina.

Despite predicting lesser impacts for central North Carolina from Hurricane Matthew, meteorologists at the National Weather Service are advising those living in the region to not to let their guard down.

The state Court of Appeals Monday will hear arguments in a lawsuit against the Halifax County Board of Commissioners which targets the operation of three separate school districts in the county.

NWS says biggest Hermine concerns are tonight

The National Weather Service reports in its latest briefing this evening and tonight will be the time-frame of greatest concern from Tropical Storm Hermine.

The state Department of Public Instruction confirmed this afternoon Halifax County Schools has been taken off its low-performing schools list.

Inmate charged in CO stabbing moved to Butner

An inmate charged with stabbing a Caledonia correctional officer Thursday has been transferred to the state’s highest security unit.

Four employees from the Department of Transportation’s Equipment and Maintenance Division in Halifax were honored Thursday by Secretary Nick Tennyson for their role in assisting in a recent house fire.
